Part Two - Galactic Matrix

The European Space Agency’s Rosetta spacecraft was launched on March 2nd, 2004 on an Ariane 5 rocket. It reached comet 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenkoon in August 2014, becoming the first spacecraft to orbit a comet. Shortly after establishing orbit, the Rosetta mother ship deployed the robotic lander: Philae (named after the ancient Egyptian Philae Obelisk), which successfully landed on the Comet’s surface. Before shutting down, Philae detected organic molecules in the comet’s thin atmosphere.

The deployment of the Rosetta spacecraft has sparked great interest in what is known as the Panspermia Hypothesis. The following is from the entry at Wikipedia: “Panspermia (from Greek πᾶν (pan), meaning “all”, and σπέρμα (sperma), meaning “seed”) is the hypothesis that life exists throughout Universe, distributed by meteoroids, asteroids, comets, planetoids, and also by spacecraft, in the form of unintended (or otherwise) contamination by microbes.”

Panspermia is a hypothesis proposing that microscopic life forms that can survive the effects of space, such as extremophiles, become trapped in debris that is ejected into space after collisions between planets and small Solar System bodies that harbor life. Some organisms may travel dormant for an extended amount of time before colliding randomly with other planets or intermingling with proto-planetary disks. If met with ideal conditions on a new planet’s surfaces, the organisms become active and the process of evolution continues. It is important to note that Panspermia is not meant to address how life began, just the method that may cause its distribution in the Universe.

None other than the late Nobel Prize winner Professor Francis Crick proposed the theory of Directed Panspermia in 1973. A co-discoverer of the double-helical structure of the DNA molecule, Crick (who is rumored to be no stranger to LSD-25) found it next to impossible that the complexity of DNA could have evolved naturally. Crick, along with chemist Leslie Orgel, hypothesized that life on Earth may have been seeded deliberately by other highly advanced extra-terrestrial civilizations.

Crick and Orgel postulated that tiny capsules containing DNA, the building blocks of life, could be loaded on a brace of rockets (or other such craft) by some ancient space-faring civilization and fired into the cosmos, in all directions. This would be the most efficient, most cost-effective strategy for seeding life on a compatible planet at some time in the future. If Crick could propose such a classic, Sci Fi-esque extra-terrestrial driven theory… the idea of naturally migrating spores, delivered to host planets over eons of time, may not be that far-fetched.

Regardless of the viability of extra-terrestrial intervention, ala ATT theory, consideration of the Panspermia Hypothesis… combined with McKenna’s Cosmic Cargo Cult theory (wherein mushroom spores possibly waft into our atmosphere from outer space) paint an intriguing picture of the evolution of intelligent life on earth. It ties together the concept of galactic migration of the building blocks of life, with the interesting idea that intelligence, perhaps in the form of microbial intelligent sentience, also migrates, over vast amounts of time, on a galactic scale, through the vastness of space.

This brings us back to the human/fungi symbiosis. Consider the following mythology: The emergence of a symbiotic relationship between psilocybe cubensis and Homo sapiens acted as the proto-cosmic trigger that can arguably be identified through the archaeological record. Per McKenna’s stoned ape theory: proto-human subsequently evolved into modern human, capable of manipulating symbolic artifacts, such as language. This symbiotic metamorphosis took approximately 100,000 years.

The explosive increase in intelligence that resulted in humanity’s rise to planetary dominance occurred over at least the last 10,000 years. This time-span represents that portion of oral and recorded history that has been preserved and handed down to us. It likely represents the vast majority of our domesticated phase… everything we remember as a species, from the written word, the rise of the City State, to our modern technological civilization. This also represents a ten-fold acceleration in species-wide intelligence from the “stoned ape” era, aka: the Paleolithic era… from 100,000 years to 10,000 years.

This exponential increase in human intelligence continues. The world’s first printing press using movable type printing technology was invented and developed in China 1,000 years ago. Thus we make the leap from 10,000 to 1,000 years. The first radio receiver successfully received a radio transmission in 1901, a little over a hundred years ago. In 1990, The World Wide Web and Internet protocol (HTTP) and WWW language (HTML) was created by Tim Berners-Lee. Also in 1990, the Human Genome Project (HGP), or the mapping of human DNA was initiated, and was declared complete in 2003. Apparently, humanity’s remarkable achievements continue to accelerate.

Now, let us return to that high-water mark of American culture… the fulcrum point between old Earth and the new paradigm… the sixties. That era’s cosmic trigger that we have named the “psychedelic apocalypse” sparked what can only be called a neo-psychedelic revival. Indeed, the intelligentsia of that era, the Academics, Beatniks and the Hippies… re-discovered the ancient tradition of hallucinogenic assisted ritual, as practiced by many cultures, over the eons. This catalyst, this technologically derived chemical agent, was non-other than… LSD-25.

The appearance of LSD-25 was a timely, global synchronicity. It re-introduced Gaia’s somatic nerve-net… humanity, to non-linear, psychedelic, intuitive intelligence. This came at a time when humanity’s increasingly “western world” linear thought processes had brought us (and Gaia) to a point of existential calamity. Post-WWII militarized nuclear science had brought us to the brink of literal planetary destruction. Gaia needed to change her nerve-net’s thought processes, and she needed to do it quickly.
