21st Century Space Race - update

I'm a space cowboy...
Bet you weren't ready for that.
I'm a space cowboy...
I'm sure you know where it's at... Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah!

- from Space Cowboy by Steve Miller

Billionaires in Space, Continued...
Jeff Bezos, the richest man on the planet, left it for a few minutes on July 20th. From his West Texas star port, Bezos blasted into space on his aerospace company: Blue Origin’s first flight with people on board, becoming the second billionaire in just over a week to ride his own spacecraft.

Corporatocracy: 2  /  Humanity: 0

The Amazon founder was accompanied by a hand-picked group: his brother, an 18-year-old from the Netherlands and an 82-year-old aviation pioneer from Texas — the youngest and oldest to ever fly in space. “Best day ever!” Bezos said when the capsule touched down on the desert floor in remote West Texas after the 10-minute flight.

Of course, it was Bezos' other quote that lets us all "know where it's at"...

"I want to thank every Amazon employee and every Amazon customer, because you guys paid
for all of this!!!"

- Jeff Bezos

Thanks for nothing, Jeff...

I'm not even going to comment on the phallic symbolism... But it looks like Babylon System is up to some crazy off-world shenanigans...

You see men sailing on their ego trip...
Blast off on their spaceship...
Million miles from reality...
No care for you, no care for me.

So much trouble in the world...

- from So Much Trouble in the World by Bob Marley

I was thinking while watching it, the trail up Mount Everest is littered with a lot of rubbish, including many dead bodies. This adventure is probably safer and certainly a lot less rigorous on ageing kleptocrat bodies. They made a point about how the only emissions in his rocket were hydrogen, but even that will not be harmless when released high in the atmosphere. I'm sure wealthy passengers will be willing to "offset" whatever damage they cause somehow. Very socially responsible people there. Just the cream of the crop.

Clearly, it is the Amazon employees and customers, who should "pick up the tab" for environmental liability...

Dude, let the science fiction fan have his day in space. The off world mavericks are getting their taste of a very harsh environment. Let them play I say. What would PKD do? 87
