Psychedelia Update - psilocybin therapy in Oregon

DATELINE: NOV. 3, 2020
Oregon became the first state in the nation to allow the use of psilocybin, the psychoactive ingredient of hallucinogenic mushrooms, in therapy. Unofficial results show Oregon voters easily passing Measure 109, according to information updated Wednesday morning.

The measure allows therapists to use psilocybin to treat chronic mental health issues like PTSD and depression. Therapists also plan to use it to reduce anxiety for patients who are dying and to help people kick their addictions.

Measure 109 directs the Oregon Health Authority to create a state-licensed, psilocybin-assisted therapy program over the next two years and determine how it would regulate the ingredient.
