Affairs of State
There has been a lot of conversation of late concerning politics in general, and a certain political contest underway in the United States of America in particular. I find it useful to contemplate the words of some of the great thinkers from Earthling history…
"One of the penalties for refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being governed by your inferiors." - Plato
“Once a man enters politics, he isn’t fit for any honest work”
- Will Rogers
”All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent” - Thomas Jefferson
“We will have to repent in this generation not merely for the hateful words and actions of the bad people but for the appalling silence of the good people” - Martin Luther King, Jr.
It would seem prudent to exercise one’s civic duty, in order to maintain one’s liberty. Benefit from the opportunity. A democracy is only as good as the culminating energies of those willing to participate.
Liberty means responsibility. That is why most men dread it.
