Black Holes and Universal Manifestation

In synchronicity with Douglas Adam's Theory of the Universe…

“There is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened.”

…and atomic physicist Neils Bohr's famous comment about a colleague’s crazy theory that…

"it's crazy, but maybe not crazy enough to be true"

…an eminent physicist from Indiana University Nikodem Poplawski has developed a theory that gamma ray bursts that occur at the fringes of the known universe and appear to be associated with supernovae, or star explosions, in faraway galaxies, are actually massive beams of high-energy photons from alternate universes that spray the galaxy in arcs, like cosmic death rays as black holes rotate.

The new theory suggests that our universe is located within the interior of a wormhole… which itself is part of a black hole that lies within a much larger universe. The matter that black holes absorb don't condense into singularities, instead, they burst out the other side (of our universe?) and become the building blocks for whole other universes in another reality. In short, our Big Bang popped out of a black hole from another, much larger universe.

Poplawski proposes that the bursts may be discharges of matter from alternate universes. The matter, he says, might be escaping into our universe through super-massive black holes via wormholes at the hearts of those galaxies. Poplawski uses Euclidean-based mathematical modeling to suggest that all black holes may have wormholes inside, in which exist universes created at the same time as the black holes.

A white hole is connected to a black hole by an Einstein-Rosen bridge (wormhole) and is hypothetically the time reversal of a black hole. Poplawski's paper suggests that all astrophysical black holes, not just Schwarzschild and Einstein-Rosen black holes, may have Einstein-Rosen bridges, each with a new universe inside that formed simultaneously with the black hole.

"From that it follows that our universe could have itself formed from inside a black hole existing inside another universe… It's kind of a crazy idea, but who knows?" he said.

Here is the image… massive black holes at the center of each and every galaxy in our universe, pulling material toward their centers. As the material disappears (crossing the event horizon) out of existence from our universe, it comes into existence, via the worm-hole, in an alternate universe. Imagine a whirlpool of cosmic debris swirling down a cosmic drain, only to spray out into an alternate universal reality. Matter squeezing out of existence in one universe… manifesting (read: being created) into another universe.

Crazy indeed… but maybe just crazy enough to be true.

Nikodem Poplawski is a research associate in the IU Department of Physics. He holds an M.S. and a Ph.D. in physics from Indiana University and a M.S. in astronomy from the University of Warsaw, Poland.

The Approaching Singularity: Part Two

Part 2 - Intelligence Amplification (IA)

“Within thirty years, we will have the technological means to create superhuman intelligence. Shortly after, the human era will be ended.”

As recognition of the potential cataclysm of artificial intelligence that has been defined as the Singularity (see part one of this series) spreads, it is the science-fiction writers who first began to explore what a transition to the post-human era might look like. Cautionary tales such as those presented in the Terminator series and the Matrix series gave us a contemporary snap-shot of what may bring about the singularity, as well as the more philosophical implications.

At this point, we may not be able to prevent the singularity…and yet... we are its creators. Not all is lost, for even the largest avalanche is triggered by small things. We currently possess the opportunity to establish initial conditions, make things happen in ways that are more conducive to humanity. Of course (as with starting avalanches), it may not be clear what the correct guiding nudge really is.

IA vs AI

Computer networks and human-computer interfaces seem more mundane than Artificial Intelligence, and yet they could lead to the Singularity. Vernor Vinge calls this alternate emergence of the singularity Intelligence Amplification (IA). IA is something that is proceeding very naturally, in most cases not even recognized by its developers for what it is. But every time our ability to access information and to communicate it to other humans is improved, we have achieved an increase over natural intelligence. This concept is clearly evident in the development of social intelligence network sites, such as Wikipedia.

New developments in AI will undoubtedly have applications in IA, and vice versa. Humanity needs to recognize that in network and interface research there is something as profound (and potentially sentient) as Artificial Intelligence. With that insight, we may see the internet, a mundane interface and networking tool, serve to advance us toward the Singularity along the networked IA path. The marvelous opportunity presented by the world wide web is that it is participatory. As the cost comes down and access to a greater portion of humanity increases, it also becomes more proletariat.

Viewing the worldwide Internet as a combination human/machine tool may manifest the Singularity before anything else. The power and influence of even the present-day Internet is vastly underestimated. The very anarchy of today’s worldwide net development is evidence of its potential. As connectivity and bandwidth and archive size and computer speed all increase, we are experiencing the transformation of our very biosphere into a vast data processor, with a million times greater speed and with millions of human intelligent agents (ourselves) in direct participation.

These developments appear to be evolutionary in nature. The internet is arguably one of humanity's most ingenious and ambitious creations to date. Being nothing less than a vast working model of global consciousness, each human with the means to connect to the web becomes, in a sense, a single, autonomous neuron in the mind of our biosphere, or as she has been more eloquently titled, Gaia. Given the incredible potential each individual earthling brings to this system, the creative possibilities for our global consciousness are seemingly infinite. As this global nerve-net becomes more complex and sophisticated, singularity approaches.

It is interesting to note that as this potential seems to be accelerating, so does it appear that one of Gaia’s major networking systems also seems to be abruptly accelerating into a less stable and dynamic state. We refer to this globally networked system as Climate. This bio-system network has been stable for the last 10,000 years or so… give or take a few thousand years. The fact that it has “re-activated” does not feel like a coincidence. Some massive reboot may be under way. And yet... as noted above… we are (in part) its co-creators.

Again, we currently possess the opportunity to effect emerging conditions, make things happen in ways that are more conducive to humanity. The key is in perception. We can assume the consciousness of being an essential part of our bio-system. We can take steps to facilitate intelligence amplification… while we still can. Should we have the intelligence and the humility to achieve the understanding that we are part of this amazing interdependent system… then perhaps we will be given the chance to live within… and as a part of… singularity.

Tek-Gnostic Expedition

Call to Adventure
The Tek-Gnostics Electronic Mystery School is hereby extending an open invitation to all intrepid travelers who have found their way to our doors. We are making preparations to embark upon a grand adventure of exploration and discovery. We will be traveling into the uncharted, ever shifting sands of cyberspace on an unprecedented quest into the unknown. Although our quest begins within the virtual walls of the Tek-Gnostics Monastery, there is no telling where (or when) we will end up. There is however one promise that is given. Our expedition will definitively and conclusively answer humanity’s ultimate question... the only question worth asking.

Just what is this question you may ask? For now… contemplate the possibilities of what might be humanity’s prime quandary. What is being asked now… what has been asked throughout the ages? What has confounded the greatest minds down through the centuries? What have Earth’s oldest institutions striven in vain to answer? We will reveal humanity’s definitive question at the first stage of our journey… at our base camp, if you will.

Grand Competition
The first step in our journey, the first mystery to be solved… is in finding our base camp. For becoming a member of this expedition requires the solving of riddles, the following of clues, the use of deductive reasoning, the application of logic… and luck. The nature of our expedition is that of a competition amongst and between our participants. The challenge lies in the solving of a series of increasingly ingenious puzzles... puzzles that must be solved by each member of our expedition, in order for them to advance. This contest becomes a race to be the first to solve each puzzle, thereby gaining advantage in progressing to the next step (level) of the journey.

For those of you who are adventurous enough to take the challenge, to pick up the gauntlet, here is your first clue. The adventure begins within the virtual tour of the Tek-Gnostics Monastery, found here…

Hidden somewhere on the tour is a secret portal wherein the adventure begins. Finding this portal will require you to fully explore the many locations along the tour. Who knows what shadowy alcoves you must inspect, what lever you will need to pull, to reveal the secret door? Once you find and access the secret portal, you will be transported to our base camp. Here you will be briefed on the nature of the quest, as well as be given the first clue toward solving the ultimate question of humanity. There will be many perils on our adventure… and many rewards.

Hidden Treasure
We fully expect to unearth treasures along our path. Some expected… some unforeseen. As an example of the treasures we know of… we will be awarding prizes, such as free membership to our advanced guild, with full access to our inner teachings, as well as our members-only database and downloads… to those who are the first to solve specific puzzles along the way. The further along the path you travel, the more excellent (and more esoteric) the rewards. And finally, for those intrepid travelers who stay with the expedition to journey’s end… the answer to humanity’s ultimate question.

So there you have it… the adventure begins now. Once you decide to embark upon our expedition, the manner in which you proceed is up to you. You may decide to travel alone… meeting the dangers and reaping the rewards by your own wits. You may choose to travel in the company of others… cooperating and sharing in the adventure. The decision is in your hands. For in the final analysis… the road that each of us travels upon… is our own.

Good luck, dear traveler… We’ll see you at our base camp… and throughout the journey…
